When you think of Indonesian waves, what first comes to mind? Sunny days and warm water? Glassy line ups? Head high runners and powerful shoulders? Or clean spitting barrels?

We’re not sorry to say, that Indo is all of the above.

And so, to surf the perfect waves, you’ll need the perfect board. Thus, we’ve put together our thoughts on the ideal travel surfboards and one-board quivers for the advanced-intermediate surfer, that we think would go best in the quintessential, pumping conditions of Indonesia’s waves.

The Raging Bull by JS industries

Recently opening a Bali based store and factory, JS Industries’ Raging Bull is an epic board for all things Indo. Made for pumping waves between 2-8 feet and above, it is a forgiving board that is also highly versatile. Paddling easy with volume under the chest, it’s got an extremely durable PU poly construction, and according to many board reviews, it goes great in great waves, especially in Indo.

Double trouble with Jon Pyzel’s Radius and Ghost

The Pyzel Radius is a high performance shortboard for high quality waves. This fantastic board needs a good amount of push and curve on the face of the wave to really come alive. Modelled with a squash tail, it’s built for fast, loose, and snappy turns. When the waves are firing, and the swell is chest high and above, this board will not fail to perform in the barrel, and will allow you to release easy on snaps, and really push into carves on open face shoulders, as well as carry speed along faster sections.

Acting as a step up to the Radius and designed to offer performance in hollower and more powerful reef and point breaks, the Pyzel Ghost is a wonderful board to surf in over-head Indo. With foam and volume distributed well to the front, this board paddles well and will help you get into those bigger waves earlier and easier. The thinner rails moulding into a pulled in round tail creates a lot more stick inside the barrel, and in high-speed turns. The rocker and single to double concave design provides an effortless get up and go speed, and is also sensitive however, controlled. Coupled together with the Radius, this two-board quiver will keep you set for all sizes of swells throughout your time in Indo.

Lost Surfboards by Mayhem - The Quiver Killer and the Sabo Taj

Just as it’s name suggests, the Quiver Killer is indeed a Quiver Killing surfboard. Designed by Matt Biolos as a next generation and step up from the Short Round, this amazing board is a well balanced weapon that goes super fun in anything from onshore, choppy and grovelling days, to glassy, overhead bombs. Paddling super easy, the Quiver Killer gets you into waves effortlessly and early, giving you time and control with carves and setting up for the barrel. If you’re looking for a stable and reliable board that is extremely user-friendly and low-demanding, the Quiver Killer is your Indo board.

Designed in collaboration with Taj Burrow, the Sabo Taj is another awesome quiver killing surfboard made for Indonesian surf trips. It is promoted as a forgiving shortboard made for a wide range of waves. With a modest overall rocker and a late drawn in tail, the Sabo Taj allows for radical manoeuvres, as well as tight hold in the barrel and in decent sized surf. This board will provide you with smooth take offs on rails that wont catch or slide, so you can really push through turns and carves. Lost’s Sabo Taj is made for better waves that are chest high and above, with solid power - fortunately, a common occurrence when searching for waves in Indonesia.

Channel Islands - The Happy Traveller for the happy traveller

Made for waves that step up in quality, power and size, the Happy Traveller is your one-board quiver for pumping waves. Created as a shortboard centred step-up, it aims to paddle and be ridden with ease, whilst also being super responsive and controlled. This is key when surfing bigger waves.
